Message from the Principal

In choosing Blacktown Boys' High School you have entered into an exciting and challenging place of learning, which is forward looking and has a proud history.

The world is facing significant change, both socially and technologically. The pace is rapid, and at times almost overwhelming. These developments have an enormous impact on us all - on standards of living, work, leisure, and the environment. Learning to live with change, and indeed to be masters of it, is one of the major challenges of our time.

The school's motto is 'Learn to live'. To bring this to reality in the school there is:

  • an emphasis on self-discipline and achievement of individual potential
  • a broad challenging and innovative curriculum which maximises student choice
  • a focus on teaching/learning, and the achievement of personal best
  • the provision of a selective class in each year for those students who have been successful in the NSW Selective High School exam
  • the provision of dedicated Gifted and Talented classes for students identified in Year 5 testing, by primary school teacher recommendation, or based on Selective High School test performance
  • a comprehensive Postive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) student welfare program emphasising care and support with firm discipline which develops responsibility
  • a 'step up' program designed to transition boys from Year 6 to post-secondary life
  • a policy of full school uniform agreed to by the school community
  • a strong sporting tradition with opportunities in a wide variety of sports both recreational and competitive
  • facilities including four fully equipped computer rooms, photography darkrooms and video equipment, music recording studio, state of the art kitchen facility, science laboratories, refurbished tennis courts, weights/fitness room, soccer pitch, football pitch and cricket oval
  • peer support, mock trial, debating, swimming schools, and many more special programs and opportunities
  • strong mentoring links with Macquarie University, University of Western Sydney, University of Sydney and University New South Wales
  • students also benefit from our strong links with Citibank through our partnership with ABCN (Australian Business Community Network). Boys from Year 8 - 11 engage in mentoring programs, skill development, job training and a number of cultural activities during their visits to the Citibank offices and other sites around Sydney's CBD.

The teenage years are years of discovery and growth, and what better way for students to discover who they are and to test the limits of their potential than to take full advantage of the vast array of possibilities at this school. Not taking up these opportunities will only lead to regret and will limit the ability to learn and to live.

I challenge every student to make this year a year in which you choose to be part of the school - not to stand on the sideline - and to 'Learn to live'.

Mr S. Addy
