Competitions

Extra-curricular activities such as incursions, excursions and school competitions are enriching experiences that broaden students' knowledge and complement their classroom learning. We in HSIE, therefore, encourage our students to get involved and take up the opportunities presented to them throughout the year.

The HSIE web-page should be regularly checked for updates on already advertised extra-curricular activities and for the inclusion of any new ones.

Students and parents should click on the link for the HSIE photo gallery to access additional photos.

Waterfront Workout Geography Excursion
Year 10 students attended the Waterfront Workout Excursion run by the Observatory Hill Environmental Education Centre. The focus on the excursion is on the current urban growth and decline occurring in the CBD. This excursion provides students with a great opportunity to participate in primary fieldwork for human geography. Over the past five years the excursion has become an integral part of the year 10 Geography. Students are introduced to a range of primary data collection and analytical skills which assist students in producing high quality Junior Geography Projects.

Vietnam Veterans' Annual Visit

As part of our school developed unit, Period Study 1962-75, the HSIE Faculty once again invited members of the Vietnam Veterans of Australia to speak to our students.  As in previous years, the first hand experiences recounted to our students provided an insight in to the complexities and challenges of the war unavailable in our regular lessons. Our students were left with a deeper understanding of the conflict, and a respect for those who fought for our country.

Medieval Show

Our annual Medieval Day for year 8 was once again very successful.  Students particularly enjoyed the display of weapons, armour, clothing and punishment devices.

2015 HSC Results

2015 was a successful year for HSIE students with many achieving excellent academic results in assessment work and in external competitions and examinations.  In particular we would like to congratulate our 2015 Year 12 students on their strong performance in the Higher School Certificate. 33 candidates sat the HSC in HSIE subjects. These included six students in Ancient History, eleven students in Business Studies, three in Economics and twelve in Legal Studies. Of particular note was Manik Mahendran who achieved a band 6 in Business Studies. Overall, 33% of candidates in HSIE subjects achieved bands 5 or 6.
