GTi - A unique learning opportunity for your son

At Blacktown Boys' High School we value all of the learning needs of our community and make every effort to address them. In recognising the diversity of our learners, we are offering a Gifted, Talented & interested (GTi) program.

Students will be able to sit an entrance exam during Year 5 to qualify for this Gifted and Talented Class.  The exam will take place in their own schools, under the supervision of Blacktown Boys' High staff.  Students and their families will be informed of their performance late in Term 1.

We realise however, that tests are not the only measure of ability, so other feedback from parents and primary school staff is also welcome.  If you believe your son is a suitable candidate for this class, please do not hesitate in contacting the school. Teachers of Year 6 will also be asked to nominate students for the GTi program.

The Gifted and Talented Program at Blacktown Boys' will offer students opportunities that are different to those in regular classrooms and place particular emphasis on the specific learning needs of boys.  Students will explore all curriculum areas by undertaking work in:

  -  Debating / Public Speaking
  -  Short film production
  -  Writing and Mathematics competitions
  -  Vocal Group
  -  Musical instrument lessons
  -  School and community performances
  -  Art competitions and shows
  -  ICT
  -  Environmental projects

As part of the Gifted, Talented & interested Program students will undertake a yearly project and presentation outside of their classroom work.  The project will focus on a theme (eg community), and parents will be invited to a project night where students will present their projects to the audience.

All students at Blacktown Boys' High will participate in creating a personalised learning plan to monitor their achievement, successes and needs across the school.  There will be a special focus on leadership, and extra curricular participation for students in the GTi program.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the GTi Co-ordinator at Blacktown Boys' High School.
