Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning

PBL1

Behaviour is the way a student relates and responds to fellow students, teachers, parents and the physical environment. Blacktown Boys' High School encompasses a school-wide system of support that includes pro-active strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviours to create a positive, respectful and safe learning environment for all stakeholders. Central to our behaviour management philosophy is Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) which establishes the link between research validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs. It is based on proactive and positive approaches to behaviour management for all students. It involves a broad range of systematic and individualised strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behaviour.

PBL2

The purpose of school-wide Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) at Blacktown Boys' High School is to establish a climate in which appropriate behaviour is the norm. We aim to nurture students to develop and demonstrate the attributes specified in our three core expectations Learning, Respect and Safety.

PBL3

A significant aspect of the Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) is the explicit teaching of expected behaviour. Social skills lessons are developed by the PBL team, and taught across the school during Homeroom sessions to ensure that we are educating the student population on expected behaviours. Visual aids reinforcing our core expectations are located in every classroom and are used to also communicate the message of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and guide conversations regarding acceptable behaviour to assist teaching and learning.
