In a joint effort between the Maths/Science and TAS faculties, our students have been able to experience the challenge of the international competition – the First Robotics Challenge (FRC)! Originating in America, the competition is organised by a community organisation, FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Competition in Australia is overseen by a team of volunteers and is growing continually.
Our journey started in 2013, where we were graciously provided with a kit and mentors through Macquarie University, and the combined "Bridges to Higher Education" program. We are thankful for their ongoing support in assisting us to provide the students with this amazing opportunity.
Students are involved in designing, building, programming and controlling a robot to suit a specific challenge every year. The competition also values team work and citizenship, including a team format for the game days. The team, consisting of students from year 8 to 11, meets once a week, afterschool through first semester, with additional holiday workshop days held at the school.
