Harmony Day is a nation-wide celebration of diversity. It recognises our cultural differences and encourages peace and harmony between all backgrounds, in order to create a more positive community.
At Blacktown, we appreciate and celebrate all of our diverse cultures and backgrounds. In 2016, ten lucky students from Year 8 to Year 12 participated in a special Harmony Day celebration at Wanderland, the home of the Western Sydney Wanderers.
On March 19th, the boys from Blacktown met at Pirtek Stadium, Parramatta, to participate in the Western Sydney Wanderers Harmony Day match against Adelaide United. After a few practice runs, our students were ready to face the crowd before the match kicked off.
Before kick-off, the boys walked out onto the pitch, in front of a boisterous Wanderers crowd, displaying proudly our Blacktown Boys' High School calico. Two of our students were lucky enough to be invited by the ground announcer to pin the orange ribbon of Harmony Day onto the large Wanderers jersey in the centre of the field, right before kick-off.
The students received many cheers and handshakes from enthusiastic Wanderers fans for representing their school and their cultures with pride.
After the Harmony Day celebrations, the boys were able to take their seats in the stadium and watch the top-of-the-table battle between the Wanderers and Adelaide.
